Winter Takes Four: Adam Winter of the Lawrence Aquahawks earned four individual gold medals at the MAL West swim meet last weekend at LIAC. The Aquahawks’ Alyssa Rudman and Ben Sloan were triple winners. Two golds each went to Molly Albrecht, Zach Andregg, Cameron Case and Heather Clark. Emma Reaney won one event.

Hedburg Winner: Trevor Hedberg of Lawrence’s Falbo Tennis Academy won the boys 18 portion of a Kansas City Grand Prix event recently. Also, FTA’s Ashley Woolsey, who attends Seabury Academy, won in a K.C. Prix, while Matt Hansen has climbed 50 spots in boys 16 national rankings after a strong showing at a meet in Columbus, Ohio.

Flames Champs: Sport-2-Sport Flames won the third-fourth grade division of the girls MAYB tournament last weekend at various Lawrence sites. Team members are Kaitlyn Barnes, Monica Howard, Kennedy Kirkpatrick, Alexa Gaumer, McKenzie Oller, Carly Davis, Bailey Harrell, Tiana Hupfauf and Callie Enick. Coaches are Doug Gaumer, Jeff Kirkpatrick and Marv Oller.

Mangino to Speak: Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino will speak at the spring meeting of the Lawrence Quarterback Club on March 8 at Kaspar’s. For information about the joining the club, call Debi Moore at 842-4629 or 766-0717.

LaPoint Honored: Jim LaPoint of Lawrence has been named the National Federation of High Schools Officials Assn. Kansas soccer referee of the year. This is the second time LaPoint, a professor in the Kansas University HPER department, has won the award. LaPoint has been officiating soccer for 24 years.

Track Officials Session: Kansas University’s track and field office will conduct an officials certification clinic March 6 in Anschutz Pavilion. People who plan to officiate at the Kansas Relays are urged to attend. For information, call Debbie Luman at 864-3486.

Orchards Leagues: Orchards Golf Course is forming a Monday and Tuesday men’s league. Anyone over age 18 and at any skill level is eligible. The Duffers League, which plays at 5:15 p.m. Wednesdays, is also forming. That league is open to men and women of all ages. All leagues feature discounted greens fees.
