ISU punishes KSU, earns sixth straight win
Ames, Iowa ? First, there were six straight losses. Now, it’s six straight victories.
That’s what you call turning things around.
Iowa State ran its winning streak to six with a 57-42 victory over Kansas State on Tuesday night in a game that brought the Cyclones full circle. Kansas State was the last team to beat Iowa State, on Jan. 26 in Manhattan.
“We just had to come out and play hard and have fun,” said Curtis Stinson, who led Iowa State with 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists. “When we played them there, we didn’t play very good defense. We knew tonight we had to get out on their shooters.”
The Cyclones (14-8, 6-5 Big 12 Conference) did that so well that Kansas State shot just 36.7 percent and never was in it while losing for the fifth straight time. It was the fewest points for the Wildcats (13-9, 3-8) since a 63-41 loss Jan. 10, 2001, at Texas and matched the fewest Iowa State has allowed in a Big 12 game.
And Kansas State didn’t get to 42 until Cartier Martin scored with .3 seconds left.
“I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t extremely disappointed in the statement that game made,” Kansas State coach Jim Wooldridge said. “I obviously was hoping we would come in here and play better and give ourselves a chance. We just did not get that done.”
Tasheed Carr added 13 points for Iowa State, which went up 20-7 midway through the first half and kept the lead in double figures the rest of the way.

Iowa State's Tasheed Carr celebrates after he scored against Kansas State. The Cyclones beat the Wildcats, 57-42, Tuesday in Ames, Iowa.
Lance Harris led Kansas State with 16 points, while Jeremiah Massey had 14 points and nine rebounds. But Fred Peete fell off sharply after two strong games last week.
Peete, who made 13 of 23 three-point shots in those games, went 0-for-6 from long range against Iowa State’s 2-3 zone and shot 1-for-12 in finishing with two points.
“I was just missing,” Peete insisted. “They really weren’t doing anything. It was just an off night.”
