Anthony lifts Nuggets past Hawks
Atlanta ? Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets picked a good time to end a long losing streak in Atlanta.
Anthony’s jump shot with nine-tenths of a second to play broke a tie and gave the Nuggets their first victory in Atlanta since 1988, a 100-96 win over the Hawks on Tuesday night.
Anthony led the Nuggets with 22 points as Denver ended a 14-game losing streak in Atlanta.
The Hawks, 8-19 at home, have the worst record in the Eastern Conference. They wasted a chance to move past Charlotte and out of last place in the Southeast Division. The Nuggets recovered from a 94-79 loss Sunday to New Jersey.
“It’s an important win,” Denver coach George Karl said. “If we do have a chance to make the playoffs, we’ll remember this one.”
Anthony scored from the left wing on a play designed for Kenyon Martin.
“They put (Antoine) Walker on Kenyon, and Kenyon made the right read,” Karl said.
