Hometownlawrence site back on market

A Web site devoted to Lawrence-area real estate is back on the market, fresh off a remodeling project several months in the making.

The site, operated by World Online, sports a new look and new features, including photo galleries, video clips, detailed maps and steerable, 360-degree virtual reality pictures.

The site also has a new address: hometownlawrence.com.

The redesigned site includes familiar items — including Realtor profiles, property listings and the ability to search property values — along with a host of new ones:

  • Detailed neighborhood profiles, separating the city into quadrants and outlining the demographics of each.
  • Guides to schools, from Kansas University to Lawrence elementary schools.
  • A profile of the community, from its founding as a free state stronghold to its emergence as an educational, cultural and employment center.

Hometownlawrence.com was created by the same team of Web developers who have built the best real estate sites in the country since 2001, as named by the Newspaper Association of America.

“We tried very hard to build a site that wouldn’t just be about finding the right house, but about finding the perfect home, neighborhood and school,” said Rob Curley, the company’s director of new media/convergence. “We wanted to do everything we could to give folks useful and practical information about Lawrence.”

World Online is a division of The World Company, which owns the Journal-World.

Tips for spicing up romance with work

As Valentine’s Day nears, people of course start thinking about love. But forget personal relationships for a second — how hot is the flame between you and your job?

Staffing firm Ajilon Office offers tips for rekindling romance with your career:

  • Inquire about new projects or other assignments. Your job could be stale and no longer challenging or rewarding, simply because you’ve been doing it for too long.
  • Look at the job descriptions and tasks of the position right above yours. Mastering a few new skills could help you move up.
  • Take training sessions or professional development classes — at work, local colleges or from industry associations.
  • Increase interactions with co-workers, even if it’s for a cup of joe.
