Louis G. Higbie, Independence

Services for Louis G. Higbie, 78, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Private burial will be in Penwell-Gabel’s Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Higbie died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Topeka.

He was born April 3, 1926, in Wellsville, the son of Damon and Thasia Jones Higbie.

Mr. Higbie worked as a manager of Star Grain Lumber Co. for six years in Princeton. He was area manager of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for more than 33 years. He was in the cattle and farming business in Lyndon and Burlington for 20 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis J. Higbie, of the home; a daughter, Kathy Wiles, Topeka; a brother, Damon Jr., Wellsville; a sister, Agnes Gifford, Burlington; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
