Baldwin ? Jason Thoren, a former Lawrence High and Kansas University football standout, has been named defensive coordinator at Baker University.

Thoren, who had been the Wildcats’ defensive-line coach, replaces Brian Boyle, who will become defensive coordinator at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo.

Boyle, a Baldwin native and Baker U. grad, will join the staff of first-year Avila head coach Bruce Young, a former BU aide.

Thoren, 29, joined coach Mike Grossner’s staff as defensive-line coach last summer after spending three seasons as a graduate aide at the University of Minnesota. Thoren was a starting linebacker for the Jayhawks in 1994-97. As a senior at LHS in 1993, he was named the outstanding player in the Kansas City metro area.
