Light freezing drizzle tonight, snow Tuesday

It’s difficult to predict the exact amount But at this point in time, forecasters are thinking Lawrence could have ankle-deep snow by late Tuesday night, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“Obviously, we’re still 24 hours out,” Sayers said this afternoon. “But at this point, it looks like 2 to 4 inches.”

Today’s temperatures stayed fairly cold, reaching a high of only 27 this afternoon, Sayers said. Overnight tonight, Lawrence will get some light freezing drizzle, with the temperature falling off to 23, Sayers said.

“It shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the morning commute,” Sayers said.

A mixture of light sleet and snow will begin falling in the late morning, with the high temperature reaching 28 degrees, he said. Then the wintry mix will change over to all snow, with the intensity picking up in the mid to late afternoon, “making for a messy commute home. Sayers said.

Tuesday’s snowfall is expected to end by 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sayers said.

The temperature will drop to a low of 18 by early Wednesday morning, with Wednesday’s high reaching 34.
