6News video: Screen Scene

Not interested in football? Well, the theatrical releases during this Super Bowl weekend are a lesson in counterprogramming.

First up, the ultra chick flick “The Wedding Date.” “Will and Grace” star Debra Messing plays a single woman who rents a male escort for the weekend of her sister’s wedding and ends up falling … ah, you know the rest. Picture “Pretty Woman” while reversing the genders.

For those who’d rather be scared, the option is “Boogeyman.” After apparently seeing his father killed by his childhood closet monster, a grown man tries to conquer his fear of the dark by spending a night in his boyhood home. But that doesn’t sit well with the monster.

And for those artsy hipsters who view sports with contempt, what better movie to curl up with than “The Machinist.” Actor Christian Bale drops 60 pounds to chronicle the physical degeneration of a sleep-deprived, unstable machinist who begins obsessing about a sinister co-worker.

Go Chiefs, I’m Jon Niccum with Screen Scene.
