The Lions (8-4, 3-1 Sunflower League) are coming off an 81-40 nonconference victory over Kansas City Christian last Friday at LHS. … Tony Anderson, who leads LHS with averages of 14 points and nine rebounds a game, had a team-high 17 points in that game. … LHS could put itself in contention in the Sunflower race with victories at 7 tonight at SMS (6-7, 4-4), but Saturday’s game at first-place Free State is a nonleague affair. … SM South defeated the Lions, 74-64, last season at LHS.

St. Mary’s at Veritas boys

Sound familiar? Veritas plays host to St. Mary’s at 11:30 a.m. today at Haskell in the teams’ third meeting this season. St. Mary’s won the season opener, 68-43, at the Flint Hills tournament, but Veritas won the rematch, 73-72, in overtime last Thursday. Mark Randtke led Veritas with 41 points. … The Eagles are coming off Tuesday’s 71-53 victory over Berean Christian. Randtke led the Eagles with 26 points and 12 rebounds in that game.

The Firebirds (5-7, 0-4 Sunflower League) return to conference play at 5:30 p.m. today against SM North (6-7, 2-5). … The Firebirds are coming off a third-place finish Saturday in the Firebird Winter Classic. FSHS rebounded from a 52-36 loss to Manhattan in Friday’s semifinals with a 61-60 victory over Blue Valley.
