City Runner Shines: John Reed of Lawrence finished 12th out of 101 runners in the ages 60-64 men’s division of the Jan. 16 Houston Marathon. His time was 3:53:00.

Age-Group Champions: Lawrence’s Keith Dowell, Dee Boeck and Jason Woolhouse were age-group winners in the Groundhog Run Saturday in Kansas City, Mo. Dowell won the ages 50-54 5K, Boeck the ages 55-59 10K and Woolhouse the ages 20-24 10K. Finishing second in their age groups were Lawrence’s Fran Breslauer and Tonganoxie’s Wally Brawner. Lawrence’s Ann Giessel earned a third place.

Bregman Wins Floor Ex: Scott Bregman of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the floor exercise with a score of 9.8 and finished fifth in all-around in the Class 10 ages 16-18 category of the Kansas City Invitational on Saturday in Overland Park. LGA’s Charlie Arnold was third in the vault and seventh on the high bar in the Level 5 age 8 division.

Hoopsters Champs: Lawrence Hoopsters third-grade basketball team won last weekend’s USSA Tournament championship game over Basehor. Team members are Anthony Bonner, Saxon Seaberg, Keith Loneker, Hunter Fellers, Zach McNabb, Bryce MontesDeOca, Tanner Glazer, Stan Skwarlo and Drew Green. Coaches are Rick McNabb, Sebastian Bonner and Keith Loneker.
