Highlights from the Kansas Legislature

Highlights of Tuesday’s activities at the Kansas Legislature:

— Kansas would get tougher on child pornography and sexual exploitation of children under proposals outlined by Attorney General Phill Kline.

— A proposal to place a ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions for gay couples in the Kansas Constitution received first-round approval in the House.

Also:

— A senator who opposes abortion introduced a bill Tuesday to restrict where the procedure can be performed.

— Rep. Melody McCray-Miller, D-Wichita was sworn into office. The death of her husband for injuries in an automobile accident had kept her from taking her seat.
