Texas prep standout headed to A&M

? Martellus Bennett, the nation’s top tight end prospect, said Monday night that he would attend Texas A&M next season, giving a boost to an already highly touted Aggies recruiting haul.

Bennett, the top-rated player in the state, appeared on Fox Sports Southwest’s Southwest Sports Report to announce his decision, ending months of speculation.

“I know where I’m going to be the next couple years of my life,” he said while flanked by his 7-year-old sister Ashley and Rivals.com recruiting analyst Bobby Burton. “I’m trying to win that (John) Mackey Award and take the team to a couple more championships in both sports.”

The 6-foot-7, 247-pound player will join his brother Michael Bennett, a defensive end, in College Station.

Bennett caught 42 passes for 487 yards this season at Alief Taylor and is averaging about 24 points a basketball game. He plans to play both sports in college.
