Evin ‘John’ Dillard, Lawrence

Services for Evin “John” Dillard, 96, Lawrence, will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Westside Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Caldwell Cemetery, Caldwell.

Mr. Dillard died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

He was born Nov. 20, 1908, in Anderson County, Texas, the son of Marion and Ellen Campbell Dillard. He graduated from high school in Palestine, Texas. He moved from Illinois to Oklahoma in 1972 and to Lawrence in 1991.

Mr. Dillard retired from Texaco Oil Co. in 1971 after 39 years as a production foreman. He worked laying pipelines across Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. He then worked seven years in oil exploration in Texas and Oklahoma on a seismograph crew.He was a member of Westside Presbyterian Church.

He married Katharine “Kay” Virginia Gorman on July 19, 1933, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She died Dec. 19, 1995.

Survivors include two sons, John, Lawrence, and James, Winfield; three half-sisters, Johnnie Price, Cleveland, Texas, Joan Richman, Palestine, Texas, and Ruth Stowe, Houston; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Fund or Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
