Old Home Town

From the Lawrence Daily World of Dec. 31, 1905: “The Young Men’s Christian Assn. will dedicate its magnificent new home at Eighth and Vermont streets tomorrow afternoon. An open house will be held for the public to see this outstanding new structure that contains a swimming pool. : Much study is being given to the bond situation, both public and private, here with an eye to holding down taxation as much as possible. : The state of Kansas raises about $19 million in taxes every year, according to its auditor. : Word is that there is no chance of passage of a federal bill granting Kansas University $25,000 in damages for the burning of the old Free State Hotel here.”
