New report to help with sewer decision

City officials now have new data to help them determine whether the sewer system in the northwest area of the community is overloaded.

Debbie Van Saun, assistant city manager, said Friday that the city had received a report from Wade & Associates that measured the amount of flow traveling through various pipes. The report also extrapolated how much flow would be going through pipes during heavy rainstorms.

City officials were reviewing the data and likely will make comments on the findings early next week, Van Saun said. The information also will be forwarded to Black & Veatch, the engineering firm that is conducting a larger study of the northwest area.

Several proposed developments in the area have not received final city approval because city leaders have said they need more information to determine whether there’s adequate sewer capacity. The Wade & Associates report might give city officials enough information to allow some projects to move forward.
