Breezy and cool today

Hold on to your hat this afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the upper 40s, but winds will be gusting through the afternoon, making it seem a little colder, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“A breezy day is in the forecast, with our temperatures struggling to climb,” Schack said.

At 2:10 p.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 48 degrees, the humidity was 54 percent and winds were from the northwest at 18 mph, gusting up to 26 mph. The windchill was 41 degrees. The average low for this date is 21 degrees, with the average high 38 degrees.

Lawrence’s skies will cleared out in the late morning, bringing in some sunshine. But more clouds are moving in this afternoon and evening, Schack said.

Overnight, the low will drop to 26 degrees by early Saturday morning, she said.

New Year’s Eve revelers will find Saturday’s temperature climbing to a high of 50 degrees, with southerly winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Skies will be partly cloudy on Sunday, the first day of the new year. The morning low will be 33 degrees, with the high climbing to 56.

Schack said there’s a possibility of some rain overnight Sunday into Monday.
