Pierce’s big night not enough

Collison helps Sonics slip past Celtics

? Ronald Murray scored a season-high 29 points, two short of his career high, and the Seattle SuperSonics overcame Paul Pierce’s 43 to beat the Boston Celtics, 118-111, on Monday night.

Murray was outstanding in the second half, going 8-of-10 while filling in for the ill Luke Ridnour. Murray scored 18 in the third quarter, and Nick Collison scored six of Seattle’s last nine points as the Sonics won at home for just the second time in their last seven games.

Pierce tied his season high and was the first player to score 40 or more points against Seattle this season. Kobe Bryant was the last, scoring 42 on April 8. Pierce finished five shy of his career high.

Collison finished with 16 off the bench for Seattle.

Cavaliers 102, Bulls 91

Cleveland – LeBron James scored 12 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter as Cleveland won its sixth straight.

Drew Gooden scored 20 points as Cleveland improved to an Eastern Conference-best 12-3 at home.

Andres Nocioni, Chris Duhon and Tyson Chandler scored 15 apiece to lead the Bulls.

Nets 109, Knicks 101

New York – Vince Carter scored 27 points, and Richard Jefferson added 23 to lead New Jersey to its sixth consecutive win.

Carter has led the Nets in scoring in all six victories. He has averaged 34 points during that span.

Suns 103, Timberwolves 89

Minneapolis – Boris Diaw had a career-high 31 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead Phoenix, which had lost five of its last seven games.

Kevin Garnett finished with 26 points and 19 rebounds, and Wally Szczerbiak added 27 points for the Timberwolves.

Magic 108, Bucks 93

Orlando, Fla. – Steve Francis scored 21 points, and Grant Hill added 20 to lead Orlando, which snapped a four-game losing streak and won for the first time on its six-game homestand.

Milwaukee star Michael Redd finished with 17 points.

Wizards 94, Lakers 91

Washington – Gilbert Arenas scored 34 points and keyed a second-half comeback to lead Washington over Los Angeles.

The Wizards ended the third quarter with a 21-3 run to take a 72-66 lead. Arenas scored 10 points during the surge.

Kobe Bryant finished with 31 points for the Lakers.

Nuggets 118, Warriors 112

Oakland, Calif. – Earl Boykins scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, Carmelo Anthony added 28 points, and Denver snapped a three-game road losing streak.

Jason Richardson had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden State, which dropped its fourth straight at home and fifth in a row overall.

Trail Blazers 105, Kings 92

Sacramento, Calif. – Zach Randolph had 22 points and nine rebounds, Juan Dixon added 21 points, and Portland sent Sacramento to its fifth straight loss.

Peja Stojakovic returned from a back injury to score 19 points.

Mavericks 102, Pacers 80

Dallas – Devin Harris scored 20 points, including a 20-footer that he intended to be a pass, and Dallas tied San Antonio for the best record in the Western Conference at 21-7.

Jazz 105, Grizzlies 102, OT

Salt Lake City – Andrei Kirilenko scored a season-high 24 points in his return to the lineup, grabbed 14 rebounds and made two key defensive plays in the game’s final moments.
