Temperatures climbing into upper 50s

If you didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas, just go outside today – you’ll find a gift of mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the upper 50s.

‘It’s a late Christmas present,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.

At 8 a.m., the weather was getting off to a crisp start – the temperature was 30 degrees, the humidity was 88 percent and winds were from the east at 7 mph, making the windchill factor 23 degrees.

“We have a little bit of dense fog this morning,” Reith said. But the fog will burn off, leaving mostly sunny skies, he said.

“It’s going to be a beautiful day across the state of Kansas,” Reith said. Today’s high will climb to 57 degrees, he said

Overnight, fog will develop on Tuesday morning, he said. Tuesday’s morning low will be 37 degrees, with Tuesday’s high climbing to 55 degrees.

Reith said clouds will move in to the Lawrence area on Tuesday afternoon, bringing a slight chance for showers late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 36 degrees, with Wednesday’s high climbing to 43 degrees, he said.
