Temperatures to climb into the 20s

Bundle up this morning. Lawrence is in for another arctic-like morning.

“Grab a coat. It’s a very cold start, ” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “The windchill has been down below zero.”

At 6:45 a.m., the temperature was 4 degrees, the humidity was 83 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 5 mph, making the windchill factor minus 5 degrees.

Today’s high will reach 28 degrees. The average high temperature for this date is 41 degrees and the average low is 24. The record is 63 for the highest and minus 13 for the lowest temperature.

Winds will be from the west at 5 to 10 mph. Clouds will clear out by the afternoon, Schack said.

“Then we’ll have a lot of sunshine for the afternoon.” she said.

Overnight, clouds will return, with Tuesday’s early morning low falling to 12 degrees, Schack said. Tuesday’s afternoon high temperature will be 36 degrees, with sunny skies, she said.

“I think we’ll see a lot of melting tomorrow,” she said.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature will be 18, with the high climbing to 42 degrees by Wednesday afternoon, with mostly sunny skies, she said.
