Seahawk girls play tough
Squad's 'team effort' vital in victory
INDEPENDENCE, MO. ? Seabury Academy pulled together and pulled out a hard-fought girls basketball victory, 30-29 Friday night over Englewood Christian.
Lindsey Ahlen had 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Laura Hoffmann had six points, three rebounds and three steals as the Seahawks held off a late Englewood charge.
“We had to do it as a team, otherwise we wouldn’t have won that game,” Seabury coach Nick Taylor said.
Taylor said the Seahawks were able to pick up the slack after an injury.
“It was a dogfight all the way through,” Taylor said. “We’d get up by five, then they’d be up by five.
“Honestly, it was a whole team effort today because Jen Crawford went down with a knee injury, and we had some freshmen step up and help us out.
“We turned the ball over 22 times, so it was one of those things where it was a sloppy, ugly game, but I’m happy to get a win, and I’m happy that the girls were able to fight back and get that victory.”
Seabury (4-1) will take a holiday break and return Jan. 3 when it plays host to Colony-Crest.
