Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 14, 1905: “The Douglas County Poultry Show last evening was easily the most successful in local history. More than 500 specimens of chickens were displayed, there were record crowds and the prizes won were surely justified. : The World is always surprised at the want ads that state that somebody found money on the street or sidewalk and will return it to anyone with a legitimate claim. Are people so well-to-do that they can throw money around? : There continue to be indictments of land-fencers in Western Kansas and there are threats of penitentiary time for the guilty. The cattlemen have long been allowed free rein and it is easy to see why they do not take fencing stipulations too seriously. Chances are none of the indicted will ever see prison time. .: Kansas University was defeated in basketball by the Newton Athletic Club in a hotly contested game in Newton last night. The score was 23-17 and both teams were in fine form, observers said.”
