Jobless rate rises

Kansas added more workers to its payrolls in November, despite an increase in the state’s unemployment rate, the Department of Labor said Friday.

The jobless rate was 5.1 percent in November, up from 5 percent in October, but lower than the 5.2 percent rate of November 2004.

The state added 10,500 jobs in November, and 27,100 compared with November 2004.

The Lawrence area had a 3.8 percent rate, up from 3.7 percent in October and from 4 percent a year earlier. Douglas County has about 63,380 people on the job, about 1,200 more than a year ago.
