A chilly, blustery day is in store for Lawrence today, with temperatures climbing up only into the upper 30s, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

"The winds will pick up and be breezy out of the west," Schack said.

At 8:30 a.m., Lawrence's temperature was 28 degrees, the humidity was 77 percent and winds were from the west-northwest at 7 mph, making a windchill factor of 21 degrees. Skies were mostly sunny.

Snow showers in the upper Plains states today will stay out of the Lawrence area, she said..

"I do think the clouds will slide into northeast Kansas by this afternoon," Schack said. "At best, as the clouds enter today, we may see one or two flurries," she said. .

Today's high temperature will rise to only 39 degrees, she said. Winds will be 15 to 20 miles from the northwest, gusting to 25 mph, she said. The average high temperature is 42 degrees and the average low is 25 degrees.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to a low of 20 degrees by early Friday morning. Friday's high temperature will climb to 37 degrees, she said.

The extended forecast calls for snow on Saturday, with the best chance for snow coming on Saturday evening, Schack said. Saturday's morning low will be 18, with Saturday's high climbing to 30 degrees, she said.
