Temperatures staying in the 30s

Watch where you step or drive on the way out – it could be a little slick this morning, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We do have the potential for a little bit of freezing on the roadway,” Schack said.

Streets were still damp this morning from overnight showers that brought .09 of an inch of rain to the Lawrence area, she said. And temperatures were hovering around the freezing mark, dropping to a low overnight of 31 degrees, she said.

At 7:15 a.m., the temperature was 34 degrees, the humidity was 92 percent and winds were from the northwest at 9 mph, creating a windchill factor of 27 degrees.

Schack said clouds had moved off to the east of Lawrence this morning, bringing some early sunshine.

“But cloud cover will return by the late morning and last throughout the afternoon,” she said.

Northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph will bring in some colder air today. Temperatures will stay in the 30s, possibly reaching 37 to 39 degrees, Schack said. The average high is 43 degrees for this date.

Thursday will bring in some cooler temperatures. Thursday’s morning low will be 21 degrees, with the high reaching 35 degrees. Thursday’s winds will be west to northwest at 15 to 25 mph. Skies will be mostly cloudy.

Friday’s morning low will fall to 18 degrees, with Friday’s high reaching only 34 degrees under partly cloudy skies, Schack said.
