KU music and dance students net awards

Numerous students from Kansas University’s music and dance department were successful in the 2005 Kansas Music Teachers Association (KMTA) and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) annual auditions in November in Pittsburg. Honored were:

¢ Hae-ju Choi, piano student with professor Jack Winerock, first place in MTNA Kansas Young Artist Competition for piano

¢ Justin White, trumpet student with professor Steve Leisring, first place in MTNA Kansas Young Artist Competition for brass

¢ Ashley Wood, clarinet student with professor Larry Maxey, Collegiate Artist Woodwind competition

¢ Megan Simpson, clarinet student with Maxey, runner-up in state woodwind competition

¢ KU Student Brass Quintet, coached by Leisring, featuring Nitai Pons, William Munoz, Brett Eberling, Casey Beal and Matt McCool, first place in MTNA Kansas Chamber Music Competition

Several students of Winerock and professor Richard Reber also won awards in the KMTA piano competition in the Graduate, Junior/Senior and Freshman/ Sophomore divisions.
