Showers moving in

You can put away your snow shovel. But you might need an umbrella – rain is moving in to the Lawrence area by late tonight, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“I think we’ll be keeping it dry this afternoon,” Schack said. “We do have the very slight chance for a late afternoon or evening shower.”

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 28 degrees, the relative humidity was 88 percent and winds were from the east-southeast at 7 mph, creating a windchill factor of 21 degrees.

Skies were sunny this morning, with just a few high clouds, Schack said. Today’s high temperature will reach 49 degrees, Schack said. The average for this date is 43 degrees. Winds will be from the south at 5-10 mph.

A cold front is moving in, bringing in cloudy skies, showers and then colder temperatures. Thicker clouds will arrive by the late morning, with cloudy skies expected through the evening, Schack said.

The best chance for showers in the Lawrence area is after midnight, she said. However, the temperature will be falling to a low of 33 degrees by early Wednesday morning, which could lead to a rain/snow mix.

“We might see one or two wet flakes of snow early tomorrow,” Schack said.

Wednesday will be dry, with cloudy skies and temperatures climbing to only 37 degrees, she said.

Thursday’s morning low temperature will fall to 21 degrees, with the high reaching 37 degrees by Thursday afternoon, with partly cloudy skies.
