The local area firearms deer season toll hit 25 and was expected to keep rising. The state reportedly had some 35,000 deer and many of them could be found in the more heavily wooded regions of the northeast. Local game wardens said they would not be surprised to find as many as 1,000 deer inhabiting the general Douglas County area. On some occasions, the animals had done excessive damage to greens at area golf courses.
