Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 13, 1905: “There are good prospects for a good basketball team at the university this year. Forrest Allen, champion goal thrower of the world and a member of last year’s Kansas City Athletic Club team, will easily be the start of the team although he will not be eligible until the first of the year. : The Salvation Army will have its usual Christmas programs again this year. It is the closest to the common people of any religious organization in Lawrence. It always does good, never bad. : At the annual meeting of the Commercial Club last night, A. Henley was chosen president, George Innes vice president, Prof. A.F. Hendrix secretary and Charles Starkweather treasurer. : The Firemen’s Ball in Fraternal Aid Hall last night drew more than 700 people and cleared $312. : The World guesses that none of the cattlemen recently indicted for illegal fencing will ever go to prison.”
