Slick roadways possible this morning

Temperature climbing into upper 40s today

If you’re out walking, running, biking or driving this morning be careful – what might look like wet pavement could be a patch of nearly invisible “black ice.”

“Any melted snow or water on the roadway could refreeze this morning. There is a lot of black ice,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. Bridges and overpasses could pose the most trouble, she said.

Temperature were starting out in the low to mid 30s this morning, but sunshine will return today and temperatures will climb today into the upper 40s, Schack said.

“Make sure you have your sunglasses,” Schack said.

At 8:15 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 32 degrees, the humidity was 85 percent and winds were from the west-northwest at 7 mph.

Today’s high will reach 48 degrees, with winds from the west-northwest at 5 to 10 mph. The average high for this date is 43 degrees. The average low is 26 degrees.

Temperatures will drop off tonight under clear skies to a low of 29 degrees by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning could bring the possibility of freezing fog, which could cause slick spots on the roadways, Schack said.

Tuesday’s high temperature will climb to 49 degrees by late Tuesday afternoon. However, clouds will move in on Tuesday, eventually bringing the chance for rain showers on Tuesday night, Schack said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 32 degrees, while Wednesday’s high will be 37 degrees.
