Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 12, 1905: “Throughout the three acts of “The Triumph of Betty” at the opera house last night, a drunken man in one of the boxes at the Bowersock monopolized the attention of the audience, almost ruining what was otherwise the best play that has been here this year. He was noisy and objectionable and was finally removed although not without a short struggle. : On Dec. 14 it will have been 14 years since the publisher (W.C. Simons) of the World arrived in Lawrence. There have been many changes and improvements since that time. : Joseph H. Harrison Sr., 77, died of dropsy yesterday at his home. He came to Kansas in June 1854 and settled on the local land he has owned since that time.”
