Midwest meth summit will start Tuesday

? Governors from 13 Midwestern states will gather for three days this week to work on plans for combating the spread of methamphetamine.

“I look forward to not only learning from other states, but also sharing the tactics that Indiana has developed,” said Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who will be host to the summit beginning in Indianapolis Tuesday.

About 150 people are expected to attend the meeting sponsored by the Midwestern Governors Assn. and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, is the keynote speaker.

A 2004 Drug Enforcement Agency study found more than half of all meth lab incidents in the U.S. occurred in the Midwest.
