Bulls halt drought in Washington

Chicago rallies from 14 down in fourth quarter

? Over three years, the Chicago Bulls had become all too familiar with celebrations at the MCI Center. This time, the Washington Wizards started reveling a bit too soon and were dealt a stunning defeat, one made even more painful by the sight of Gilbert Arenas limping off the court.

The Bulls rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit and finished the game with a 16-0 run Saturday night, capping a 118-111 victory that snapped an 11-game losing streak on the Wizards’ home floor.

“It seemed like everything they did was going their way,” said Luol Deng, who had 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in his first start of the season. “They were quicker to loose balls and getting out and getting easy dunks and stuff. We just felt like they were celebrating and thinking the game was over. We turned it around, started competing, and we were able to get back in it.”

Chris Duhon scored all of his 24 points in the second half. Kirk Hinrich had 22 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds, and Darius Songalia scored eight of his season-high 15 points in the fourth quarter for the Bulls, who trailed by nine with three minutes to play. The game was the first meeting between the teams since the first round of last season’s playoffs, when the Wizards won the final four games – including three at home – to take the series, 4-2.

The victory moved the Bulls back above .500.

“It feels good to win over here,” Hinrich said. “We desperately needed a win.”

Chicago's Kirk Hinrich (12) goes to the basket against Washington's Caron Butler (3). Hinrich had 22 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds, and the Bulls beat the Wizards, 118-111, Saturday night in Washington.
