Gingerbread auction raises $20,000

An auction of gingerbread houses has raised more than $20,000 so far for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County.

More than 120 children and adults created and donated the graham cracker and gingerbread homes that were auctioned Wednesday during the Eldridge Gingerbread Festival and Auction, sponsored by the Eldridge Hotel.

Mason Denneler and Ashley Beiter took home first place in their age groups for the graham division. Ainsley, BryAnn and Cali Burke tied for first in the 13-18-year-old group.

Jeannie Robinson won first place in the gingerbread division. Helen Benefiel won second place, and Toni Detherage won third place.

Seven gingerbread and graham cracker houses bought by Mike Elwell and KLWN Radio will be auctioned again. Those proceeds will also benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County.
