FSHS girls drub Atchison

? Free State High’s girls basketball squad attacked early and often in a 65-23 victory Friday over Atchison at the Bonner Springs Invitational, playing their first game in the event after Thursday night’s game was postponed.

“We pressed them early on and really forced the tempo against them,” FSHS coach Bryan Duncan said. “Our superior athleticism really allowed us to do the things we needed to do.”

The Firebirds (1-1) took a team approach to the game as 11 of their 12 players who played came away with a basket.

The victory sets up today’s rematch of last year’s semifinal against Topeka Seaman.

“They are a very tall team that can possibly present some matchup problems for us,” Duncan said. “But I think we can present some for them, too.

“We have a lot of quickness and speed, and being able to get up and down the court will be to our advantage.”
