Economist: Economy poised for expansion

? The Kansas economy is poised for an imminent expansion in nearly all sectors, according to a new report.

Statewide, the year is ending with a mix of weak and strong sectors, said Janet Harrah, director of the Center for Economic Development and Business Research at Wichita State University. Information services is the weakest sector, while natural resources and mining is the strongest.

She presented her annual report Thursday at an economic outlook conference in Wichita.

Personal income in Kansas is on track to grow by 5.7 percent this year and is forecast to increase 4.9 percent in 2006. Wages and salaries are expected to increase 5.5 percent statewide, according to the report.
