Strong night at line enough for Wildcats

? David Hoskins scored a career-high 24 points to lead Kansas State to a 71-67 victory over Colorado State on Wednesday night.

Cartier Martin added 18 points and Lance Harris 14 for the Wildcats, who shot only 35 percent from the field but went 27-for-32 from the free-throw line.

Colorado State pulled ahead early in the second half, but Hoskins kept the Wildcats within striking distance. His three-point play with 4:52 remaining gave Kansas State a 62-53 lead – its biggest of the game.

The Rams managed to close within 69-67 on Stephan Gilling’s three-pointer with 9.4 seconds to go, but Hoskins sank two free throws to seal the win.

Michael Harrison led five Rams in double figures with 13 points.

Jason Smith, who had been averaging more than 19 points per game for the Rams, was 0-for-5 from the field and finished with six points.

Davidson 82, Missouri 73

Davidson, N.C. – Ian Johnson had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Davidson over Missouri.

Brendan Winters added 17 points for the Wildcats (4-2), who won their 11th straight home game and beat Missouri for the second straight year.

Thomas Gardner scored a career-high 30 points, including eight three-pointers, for the Tigers (2-3), who were outrebounded 46-35 as they lost their fourth straight road game dating to last season.

After trailing by as many as 18 points in the first half, Jimmy McKinney, who played in his 100th consecutive game, hit a jumper with 4:40 left to get Missouri within 71-62. But Davidson answered by going back inside to Johnson, who hit a shot in the paint.

The Tigers got no closer than seven points the rest of the way, spoiling the return to North Carolina for Missouri coach Quin Snyder. The former Duke player was a Blue Devils assistant for five seasons under Mike Krzyzewski before taking the Missouri job seven years ago.

Louisiana Tech 68, Texas Tech 53

Lubbock, Texas – Paul Millsap scored a season-high 29 points as Louisiana Tech beat Texas Tech.

Millsap hit 13 of 19 from the field while grabbing 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Marcus Elliot added 13 points for Louisiana Tech (4-3), and Michael Wilds had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Texas Tech (5-4) cut the lead in the second half to five points four times, but could never get any closer to the Bulldogs.

Jarrius Jackson scored 19 points for the Red Raiders while Martin Zeno and Dior Lowhorn had 16 points each.

Colorado 76, Utah 52

Boulder, Colo. – Richard Roby scored 19 points, and Colorado played tough defensive to beat Utah.

Chris Copeland added 16 points as Colorado (5-1) extended its winning streak to four.

Bryant Markson and Chris Jackson led Utah (4-2) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Utes had won the last two meetings between the two teams, but struggled with 17 turnovers and were only 2-for-14 on three-pointers as they scored a season-low 16 points in the first half.

Colorado started slowly, missing 14 of 15 shots to start the game. But the Buffaloes began finding their range from beyond the three-point arc, connecting on seven three-pointers, and outscored Utah, 30-6 over the last 11:57 of the first half to lead 33-16.
