State grant boosts anti-smoking efforts

Lawrence and Douglas County are getting a major boost to expand tobacco-prevention efforts.

A grant worth more than $200,000 has been awarded to the Douglas County Community Health Improvement Project. A formal announcement about the grant will made during a presentation at 9 a.m. today in Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s auditorium.

Douglas County C.H.I.P. will get $184,000 in cash plus more than $60,000 in direct assistance to support comprehensive tobacco prevention programs. The funds are awarded by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
