Snow moving in Wednesday

Get your snow shovels ready – Lawrence is expected to get an ankle-deep snowfall, starting Wednesday, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist. Douglas County is expected to get between two and four inches of the white stuff by Thursday morning, Sayers said.

“All the snow that falls will stick, just because things are so cold. It will be very light and fluffy, not the best to make snowballs with,” Sayers said. He explained that the temperature will drop overnight and start out on Wednesday morning at 6 degrees and climb to a high of only 13 by Wednesday afternoon, with windchills below zero.

The National Weather Service has issued a snow advisory for the Lawrence area from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, predicting between three to six inches of accumulation in an area that includes Topeka, Lawrence, Emporia and Ottawa..

Sayers said lighter amounts of snow will fall to the northwest and heavier amounts to the southeast parts of Douglas county;

Thursday’s morning low will be 6 degrees, climbing to a high of 17 by the afternoon, he said. Thursday’s skies will be cloudy in the morning, but will become clear Thursday afternoon.
