Safety commission opts for train horn quiet zone

The North Lawrence Improvement Assn. voiced its concerns last night at the monthly Traffic Safety Commission meeting.

The commission addressed those concerns by opting to impose a train horn quiet zone in North Lawrence. But first, improvements will need to be made to the railroad tracks at Seventh and Locust streets.

If the improvements meet Kansas Department of Transportation and Federal Railroad Administration standards, the city will then establish a quiet zone between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The City Commission plans to address the issue in two to three weeks.
