Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 5, 1905: “The Lawrence Electric Light Co. got the contract for two years for the street lighting project here last night at the city council session and work is due to begin as soon as possible. Public lighting is badly needed. : Judge Mitchell is preparing an ordinance that he will ask the city council to pass to prevent boys under 16 from loitering around billiard halls. The good people of the town ought to get behind the move. . . . Judge Phillips also has given the Santa Fe a clean bill of health in some contempt cases. There must not be persecution of railroads because that is just as bad as too much laxness.”
