Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 4, 1905: “A gas company man had to rush to a local home yesterday after a connection there had broken and there was fear of fire or an explosion. The fitter went on the run and made repairs and averted what could have been a tragedy. With the benefits of gas service here come dangers, as well. : The public out this way may be concerned about the advanced prices of all kinds of foot wear, announced in Boston and New York. Prices have risen from 50 cents to $1 per pair of shoes.”
