Lawrence school district officials seemed pleased with a state legislative proposal to shift the burden for financing schools from property taxes to sales taxes. Kansans would pay an additional $2 in sales tax on every $100 of purchases to reduce property taxes for public schools under a special plan being forwarded to the 1981 Kansas Legislature.
