KSU talks to Virginia aide

Prince thought to be leading candidate

? Kansas State athletic director Tim Weiser declined to comment Friday night on speculation that he was close to hiring Virginia offensive coordinator Ron Prince as head football coach.

Kansas State, searching for a successor to Bill Snyder, flew Prince in for a meeting Thursday at Topeka.

“If we have anything to report, we will,” Weiser told reporters during a Kansas State women’s basketball game. “It’s business as usual.”

Weiser seemed irritable at being asked to comment.

Weiser was at the game along with Kansas State president Jon Wefald and Bob Krause, vice president of institutional advancement.

Officials at Billard Airport said Prince arrived about 9 a.m. in a Cessna Citation jet bearing a Kansas State logo on the tail and “K-State” on both sides. He was accompanied by Krause.

Prince returned to the airport at midafternoon for the flight back to Virginia.

Many Wildcat fans would be disappointed if the school does not follow Snyder’s advice that the new coach be someone with Kansas State ties.

Prince, 36, is from nearby Junction City but never attended Kansas State. He was an offensive lineman at Dodge City Community College before playing his final two college seasons at Appalachian State. He is in his fifth year at Virginia and his third as offensive coordinator.
