Baldwin

Head coach: Kit Harris (seventh season).

2004-05 postseason: Finished 27th at Class 4A state tournament.

Outlook: The Bulldogs return a strong roster filled with state qualifiers from last season. Sophomore 119-pounder Kevin Callahan took fourth at the big meet as a freshman and is considered among the top sophomore wrestlers, not only in Kansas, but the nation.

De Soto

Head coach: Matt Jones (third season).

2004-05 postseason: Finished ninth at Class 4A state.

Outlook: The Wildcats will field a young roster in 2005 after earning a top-1o finish at state last winter. All eyes will be on senior Neil Erisman, a 171-pounder who took second at state last year and already has signed a letter-of-intent to wrestle at powerhouse Oklahoma State next year.

Eudora

Head coach: Bill DeWitt (fourth season).

2004-05 postseason: Finished 30th at Class 4A state tournament.

Outlook: The Cardinals graduated a host of talented wrestlers from a year ago, but do return senior Miles Cleveland, a 145-pounder who won a regional title last winter and finished 1-2 at state. He will be joined by a strong junior class that has plenty of varsity experience.

Mill Valley

Head coach: Travis Keal (sixth season).

2004-05 postseason: Finished 13th at Class 5A state tournament.

Outlook: The Jaguars return an experienced lineup looking to build on last season’s solid state finish. Senior Justin Broadbent is a two-time state runner-up, while fellow senior Matt Westin, junior Tyler Williamson and sophomore Robby McClung will be counted on to score big points.

Oskaloosa

Head coach: Bryan Johnston.

Outlook: After finishing above .500 in dual meets last season and winning the Pleasant Ridge tournament, the Bears have set a goal of winning this year’s Delaware Valley League title. A trio of juniors – Jake Rowland, David Williams and Matt Hayes – headline Johnston’s lineup.

Perry-Lecompton

Head coach: Trevor Gray (third season).

Outlook: Following a seventh-place showing in the Kaw Valley League last winter, Gray seeks improvement behind a roster loaded with upperclassmen. Senior Willie Brooks (189 pounds) and Alex Hackathorn (215) are back after 20-win seasons in 2004-05.

Santa Fe Trail

Head coach: Regan Erickson (ninth season).

2004-05 postseason: Finished sixth at Class 4A state tournament.

Outlook: The Chargers will try to defend last season’s Kaw Valley League title with a mix of experience and talented fresh faces. Seniors Lorenzo Mundy (140 pounds) and Brad Padilla (119) finished second and sixth at state last season, while four additional state qualifiers return.

Tonganoxie

Head coach: Jeremy Goebel (third season).

2004-05 postseason: Finished 21st at Class 4A state tournament.

Outlook: The Chieftains may field the youngest wrestling roster in the area this winter, as 19 of the 26 kids in the program are freshmen or sophomores. While inexperience may be a factor this season, talented newcomers such as Matt Brock and Kevin Hamm will get a chance to start building for the future.

Wellsville

Head coach: Paul Steeby.

Outlook: The Eagles expect a solid season thanks to a roster deep with upperclassmen who have varsity experience. The grappler to watch is Ray Ramirez, wrestling at 125 pounds this year after qualifying for state last winter at 119.
