Old home town – 40 years ago today
The Eudora Jaycees planned Dec. 7 as Armed Forces Appreciation Day to emphasize to American troops in Vietnam the strong support from the home front. Dec. 7 was the “date which will live in infamy” when the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. The Jaycees considered that a good time to come forth in favor of modern U.S. military people.
Jim Clark of Lawrence bought Shawnee Motor Co. of Topeka to add to his Lawrence-area Dodge-Chrysler operation. The conglomerate also included Jim Clark Dodge in Kansas City, Kan.
