Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 2, 1905: “Those who know Harrison Weeks, the former university football coach suing chancellor Frank Strong for $30,000 for defamation of character, don’t think the chancellor could do $30,000 in damage to a coach of that caliber. : The sheriff and marshal raided a downtown joint last night and arrests were made and liquor confiscated. The place has been a bad one for some time and more raids seem in order. : T.J. Sweeney is going out of the express business after a long and productive career and he is being honored by many for his contributions to the community. : The famous Tissot collection of Old Testament pictures are not being well patronized by the city. That is unfortunate and Lawrence is a town that is supposed to appreciate art. The display will be here only a few more days.”
