William J. Sharp received the rank of Eagle Scout at his Court of Honor on Aug. 3. Sharp is a member of Boy Scout Troop 52, charted to the First Methodist Church, and of Venturing Crew 2691, charted to the Lawrence Wesleyan Church.

Will began his scouting career as a Cub Scout with Pack 3052 in 1994. He progressed from Bobcat to Webelo and obtained the Arrow of Light Award.

He then joined Troop 52 in 1998. Will earned 35 merit badges while advancing to Eagle, including camping, citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, citizenship in the world, communications, environmental science, family life, first aid, hiking, lifesaving, personal fitness, swimming, American heritage, art, backpacking, basketry, canoeing, climbing, cooking, fingerprinting, fishing, geology, law, leatherwork, orienteering, pioneering, rifle shooting, snow sports, soil and water conservation, water skiing, wilderness survival, and wood carving.

He is a Brave in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He received the following awards: BSA SCUBA, BSA Snorkeling, BSA Lifeguard, Paul Bunyan, World Conservation, 100 Nights Camping, and 12 Months Camping.

Sharp

As a Venturer, he received the Bronze Award for outdoor activities and sports, and the Venturing Ranger Award.

Will camped at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation and the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. He attended two sessions at the Philmont Scout Ranch and two sessions at the Florida Seabase as well as one session at Elkhorn High Adventure Base.

His leadership positions include: librarian, historian, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, instructor, troop guide and junior assistant scoutmaster. In his Venturing crew, he has been vice president and president. He has served on staff for three summers at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation. He is serving as assistant scoutmaster with Troop 52.

His Eagle project was the restoration of the garden at Cottonwood Inc. This involved replacing plants, laying down mulch and stone, and installing birdhouses.

William is a graduate of Baldwin High School. He is a freshman at Kansas State University where he is studying parks management and conservation and is enrolled in Army ROTC.

He is the son of Glen and Pamela Sharp, Baldwin.

¢ Boy Scout Troop 62, chartered to the Linwood Lyon’s Club, had a canoe trip at Eminence, Mo.

They used kayaks and canoes. Members swam, cooked and camped. Scouts who attended were: Ryan Ellis, Josh Bowen, John Hopkins, Logan Ross, Skylar Ross, Clinton Kissinger, Levi Draper and Brian Pemberton. They were accompanied by adult leaders Mike Kissinger, Mike Pemberton, Harry Draper, Mark Hopkins and Matt Ross.

¢ A Girl Scout Interest meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Chapel in Eudora. The meeting is for anyone interested in the Girl Scouting program.
