The Richland basket dinner will be Sunday at the Richland American Legion, S.E. 89th Street and Shadden Road. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and dinner will be at 1 p.m. Members are asked to bring their table service. Drinks will be furnished. ¢ Kendra Leet, 9, daughter of Frank and Teri Leet, Lawrence, received first place in the Casual Wear competition at the Kansas National American Miss Junior Pre-Teen Pageant July 8-9 at the Overland Park Marriott. She also received several other awards including Top 10 Overall. Kendra qualifies to compete in national competition in November in Hollywood.

¢ John Eagle and Philip Garito, both of Lawrence, received a degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in August. Eagle received a doctorate in philosophy. Garito earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering. Garito, who participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps, received a commission to be a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

¢ Dhwani Shah, daughter of Naina Shah and Kiran Shah, both of Lawrence, has been named to the honor roll for the spring semester at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, N.C., by receiving at least a 3.5 grade-point average. Dhwani recently graduated from Saint Mary’s and will attend Princeton in the fall.

¢ The descendants of Louis and Elisabeth Johanning Haas had their 51st annual reunion Aug. 14 at Marion Springs School in Worden. Robby and Tammy Johnson Lamb were hosts.

A basket dinner was followed by a short business meeting conducted by Lucile Shoemaker, secretary, and Melanie Coffman, president, who gave a short family history.

The date marked the 40th wedding anniversary of Alan and Joyce Niebrugge and Bob Stoebener’s birthday.

Family members, from the area, who attended were Mark and Rose Marie Robertson with Katie and Jack; and Robby and Tamara Lamb, Lawrence; Melissa Bryan with Gracie, Wellsville; Lyle and Paula Bowlin with Sara and Matthew; Wayne and Janel Coffman with Curtis, Jay and Melanie; Richard and Dorothy Johanning; Ruth Stoebener; Harold and Barbara Johnson; Dora Stoebener; Stanley Johanning with Jakob; Allan and Darlene Schwarz; and Oscar Stoebener, Baldwin.

Thirty-one family members attended from outside of the Lawrence area.

Guests were the Rev. Fred and Vickie Craig, Topeka, with their grandson, Aaron, Topeka, and A.J. Osborne, Baldwin.

The next reunion will be Aug. 13, 2006, at the home of David and Rita Gaebler, Kansas City, Mo. Melanie Coffman, president, and Lucile Shoemaker, secretary, will be in charge.

¢ John Fredrickson, Lawrence, son of Kevin and Lisa Fredrickson, attended Level 1 of the Future Astronaut Training Program on July 24-29 at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson.

The weeklong program incorporates actual astronaut training with briefings on subjects ranging from how the body reacts to spaceflight to principles of rocketry. Campers also receive up-to-date human spaceflight news. The nationally recognized camp strives to motivate and inspire careers in space-related industries.

¢ Susan Andersen, Lawrence, has been elected to membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as an undergraduate student through Delta Chapter at the Kansas University School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kan. Andersen received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the KU School of Nursing. Sigma Theta Tau works to foster, develop and connect nurse scholars and leaders to improve health care. Membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship.

¢ Anna Kuczera, Lawrence, daughter of Joanna and Krzysztof Kuczera, completed the Aviation on the Cutting Edge camp at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. Kuczera is a sophomore at Free State High School.

ACE provided students the opportunity to pilot a Cessna 172 for one hour, completing takeoff and landing with a certified flight instructor at their side. While in the air, campers practiced different maneuvers taught by the instructor, including the zero-g dive that simulates weightlessness.

Students toured the Hutchinson airport, learned about the different career opportunities in aviation, and met with the air traffic control staff for a lesson in how pilots communicate with air traffic control and the protocol that must be followed to ensure safe air space.

¢ The third annual Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant picnic for all former or present employees and families will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kim’s Barn, 934 E. 2100 Road, south of Eudora. The doors open at noon.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring a dish to serve at least eight people according to last name, as well as bread, drinks and table service. Tables and chairs are provided.

Those with last names that begin with A-F are asked to bring a dessert; G-P a main dish; and Q-Z vegetables or salad.
