One more rainy day

Lawrence area in flood watch

Watch out for pooled water on area streets and highways as you’re out driving today. Lawrence is in a flood watch through 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

“We’re going to see a chance for redeveloping showers and thunderstorms as we go through the afternoon hours,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. “The good news is after today, it looks like the rainfall is coming to an end.”

Earlier this morning, the railroad underpass on North Second Street was closed because of flooding, but it has since reopened, Reith said. Lawrence had about an inch of rain overnight.

“We’re now starting to clear things out,” Reith said.

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 71, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were from the southeast at 9 mph. Today’s high will reach 79 degrees.

Reith said there will be some breaks in the clouds heading into the noon hour today, but thunderstorms are expected to develop again this afternoon and this evening.

“Tonight, after midnight, we’ll see those skies begin to clear,” he said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to a low of 67 degrees by early Saturday morning. Saturday’s high will be 85 degrees.

“We’re going to see lots of sunshine heading into Saturday and Sunday,” he said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 66 degrees and Sunday’s afternoon high will be 88.
