Science standards may be set at Lawrence meeting

State Board of Education members will hold their monthly meeting in October in Lawrence and may possibly finalize controversial science standards.

The two-day meeting will be held Oct. 11-12, but a site has not been determined yet.

The science standards, used as the foundation for instructing students on science, have been tentatively approved and include criticism of the theory of evolution.

The standards have been sent out for review and may be ready for a final vote by the October meeting, although it is more likely that they will be considered in November.

Twice each year, the board holds meetings outside Topeka.
